The PAISLEY motif is thought to have originated about 2000 years ago on the Persian India border near Kashmir. The designs lend themselves to luxurious shawls and ties, clothes and furnishing fabrics and of course cushions. It remains as popular today. In the 19th century, the Scottish town of Paisley produced such quality and quantity of shawls that the name Paisley became synonymous with these gorgeous patterns.
